How to choose an air purifier by room size

The most useful number when picking an air purifier is the size of the room it will run in. Here is how to measure your room and how to read the two figures that matter: rated coverage and CADR.

Step 1: Measure the floor area

Measure the length and the width of the room in feet and multiply them. The result is the floor area in square feet (sq ft).

Illustrative example: a bedroom of 12 ft × 14 ft has a floor area of 168 sq ft.

Step 2: Compare it with the rated coverage

Every air purifier is rated for a maximum room size. The Air Purifier XR2 is rated for rooms up to 300 sq ft, so the 168 sq ft bedroom in the example above is within its rating.

In a room larger than the rating, the purifier needs more time to clean the same air. For a bigger room, plan one XR2 for every 300 sq ft of floor area, or message us on WhatsApp for advice on your room.

Illustrative example: a 500 sq ft living room is larger than one XR2's rating, so two units would cover it.

Step 3: Read the CADR

CADR (clean air delivery rate) is the amount of filtered air a purifier delivers per hour. The higher the CADR, the more often the air in a room passes through the filter. The XR2 has a CADR of 255 m³/hr. See what CADR means for more.

Illustrative example: the 168 sq ft bedroom with a 10 ft ceiling holds about 1,680 cubic feet of air, roughly 48 m³. At 255 m³/hr the XR2 could, on paper, pass that volume through its filter about 5 times an hour. Real results depend on how well the room is sealed and on outdoor air.

Getting the most from it

  • Keep doors and windows closed while it runs.
  • Run it in the room where you spend the most time, often the bedroom at night.
  • Use Turbo mode to clear the air faster, then switch back to a lower setting.
  • Stand it on a flat, stable floor with some free space around it, not pressed against a wall or hidden behind furniture or curtains, so air can flow in and out freely.
